Update

Soooo update on my life:

I finally met with all the right people (after having to send a million emails and jump through hoops and what not) annnd.... I GET TO START DOING RESEARCH TOMORROW!

I am so so so so excited! I'm working with this guy Jons Hillborn and my "project" for the semester is going to be to create a plastic filament that is FDA approved for use in the human body. EEEEE how cool is that?? So I think for the first week or so I'm just going to be doing paper work and getting settled in and figuring out my POA (plan of action) for my project.

If you're interested at all, here are the other research projects he supervises: yay polymers!

just click on the links under all the Ph. D student's pictures to see all the cool research he is doing.

Other than that I've been quite boring. I got a cold this weekend and did not get out of bed (besides for making food and the occasional shower) for two days! I didn't know it was possible for me to sleep as much as I did. I completely lost my voice. My throat is still really sore, but I can speak now. I missed class on Monday because I felt so terrible, but today was fine. Although my classmates may have been annoyed with all the coughing I was doing. Oh well.

in other news, on my way home from class yesterday Red Safety's seat fell off. As I was biking. It just fell off. I couldn't believe it. I was so sad. How could this happen? It had been a bit wobbly, but I figured I just needed to tighten it a bit. And then all of a sudden, the whole seat was just on the ground. A Swedish person saw all this happen and just said, "Oy!" and walked past. Stupid Swedish people. Don't even ask if I'm okay (even though I obviously was...I just miss America and how we are nice and help people).

I sadly walked her home and was bikeless for the weekend. Which turned out to be okay since I was sick and gross.

I finally got her fixed today at the bike shop by my place. The guy who owns it is from Chile and decided to tell me his entire life story. Apparently he tries to do this to anybody that comes in, but I was unaware. So I got it all. He even broke out pictures of his family and this bakery he used to own. Fixing my bike probably took a total of 10 minutes but I was in there for two hours.

Ooooh the random people you meet in Sweden.

  1. :) you make me happy.
Also, I went back today and got my keys and key card (which allows me to get free coffee!) and I have my own computer and desk and email address: megan.hill@mkem.uu.se

SO AWESOME. I feel awkward telling people I'm just an undergraduate student though...everyone else there is masters/doctorates!

  2. Reading about all the research they are doing makes me feel like my contribution to society is really pathetic. Why aren't I making interjectable gels as matrixes for tissue engineering?! Sigh.

Sorry you were sick! Tylenol sore throat (the liquid kind) knocks that shit out so fast. When I had strep throat I drank like an entire bottle of that stuff. Probably not a good thing now that I think about it...

Good luck with your research. It's just another impressive thing to smack onto your resume. God you're so cool. Feel better! Keep being awesome!
